Cate's work in communicating geology to a general audience includes creating educational social media content, teaching lessons via livestream, giving oral presentations, speaking at colleges, and leading group field trips.

Much of her work revolves around creating content for social media that both catches attention and effectively educates viewers of all ages about different aspects of geology. She is known on TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube as the Groovy Geologist. Across multiple platforms, she shares funny videos with trending themes, informative posts about geologic concepts (and misconceptions), and immersive videos explaining and showing real-world examples while out in the field.

Since August 2020,  Cate has been the host of a weekly livestream on TikTok called Rocks & Hops in which she teaches lessons on different geology topics. Her podcast, The Schist of It, is dedicated to deciphering relevant topics, news, and publications in geoscience as well as meeting with industry professionals.
Through the organization and hosting of online networking events, Cate aims to bring people together and share information about the many fields of geoscience. In 2021, she put together a Networking November event series which gathered over 200 online attendees across two events and sparked many connections and new projects with people from around the world.

Stemming from her success as a public figure in geo-communication, Cate has spoken at several institutions, was recognized by the Geological Society, and appeared in a TV show on the Science Channel. In May 2022, she gave her first TEDx Talk at UC Riverside on how social media is the key to reaching and recruiting a new generation of geoscientists.

In an effort to get more people outside to learn about the earth under their feet, Cate also organizes public geology hikes that take groups through a park to learn about the geologic history, lithology, and morphology of the region.
